Polfrost’s own terminal infrastructure

The role of terminal infrastructure in bulk logistics projects

In bulk transport projects, access to appropriate transshipment infrastructure and the ability to adapt the operational location to the specific cargo, route, and current market conditions are critical.
For this reason, Polfrost executes bulk transport projects using both its own terminals and a proven network of external transshipment facilities across Poland.

This approach ensures operational continuity and enables flexible responses to changes in production schedules, rolling stock availability, and infrastructure constraints.

Polfrost’s own terminal infrastructure

The Gołuchów terminal plays an important role in bulk projects requiring efficient transshipment between rail and road transport.

Operations handled in Gołuchów include:

  • aggregates,
  • RDF,
  • chemical materials.

The terminal’s location allows for effective handling of both domestic and international projects, including routes that require precise rail-to-road operational planning.

The Gdańsk terminal is used in projects where, in addition to transshipment, cargo bagging and high-volume handling are of particular importance.

The facility is used, among others, for:

  • pellets,
  • bagged coal,
  • fertilisers.

The terminal enables intermodal operations, combining rail and road transport with port handling.

Braniewo is used as a transit point in projects requiring a flexible operational approach, particularly for seasonal cargo and fluctuating volumes.

Most frequently handled cargo includes:

  • pellets,
  • coal.

The location allows for quick responses to changes in delivery schedules and for adjusting subsequent transport stages to current market conditions.

External transshipment facilities and intermodal operations

In projects where route direction, infrastructure availability, or lead time are critical, Polfrost also uses external transshipment terminals, including:

  • Siark-Port, Fosfory, Fast Track – Gdańsk (port operations),
  • Małaszewicze — a key hub for projects executed within the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) rail corridors,
  • Medyka / Mościska — operations on eastern routes,
  • Szczecin / Siemianówka / Sławków.

The choice of transshipment point is always based on cargo characteristics, route requirements, and operational conditions — not on attachment to a single location.

The terminal as a process element, not an objective

In bulk transport projects, the terminal is not an end in itself, but a tool within the logistics process.
Depending on cargo characteristics and operational conditions, the transshipment point may change in order to ensure supply continuity, reduce downtime, and minimise cost-related risks.

This approach allows Polfrost to execute bulk projects in a predictable manner, maintaining control over operations while adapting to real market conditions.
