✈️ Whether you’re shipping flowers, apples, seeds, or wooden crates, phytosanitary regulations apply to everyone.
And not just those who trade plants.
One missing stamp = a shipment stopped
Sounds trivial?
A Polish container was recalled from Australia simply because the pallets didn’t have the ISPM 15 marking.
The costs? Tens of thousands of zlotys and a lost contract.
This isn’t an exception – such situations happen every day.
What exactly are phytosanitary requirements?
These are international regulations that protect plants and ecosystems from pests.
They are based on IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention) standards and EU regulations. Each importing country has its own requirements, so it’s crucial to:
✅ check the destination country’s regulations,
✅ obtain a phytosanitary certificate,
✅ ensure that wood packaging meets the ISPM 15 standard.
A phytosanitary certificate – the most important exporter document,
issued by the Polish Institute of Plant Health and Inspection (PIORiN),
confirms that the goods are free from diseases and pests.
✅ It is valid for trade with non-EU countries.
✅ If it is missing, the goods will not cross the border.
The application must be submitted in advance, as the certificate is only valid for approximately two weeks.
The goods must be ready for inspection, clean, and properly secured.
Good Exporter Practices
✅ Check the phytosanitary requirements of the country to which you are shipping the goods.
✅ Report the shipment to the Polish Institute of Plant Health and Inspection (PIORiN) in advance.
✅ Purchase packaging from ISPM 15 certified suppliers.
✅ Ensure that the goods and machinery are clean, free of soil or plant debris.
✅ If possible, use alternative pallets (plastic, metal, cardboard).
Conclusions
Phytosanitary regulations aren’t bureaucracy – they guarantee safe trade.
They protect crops, the environment, and your business from costly downtime.
We take a comprehensive approach to this process: from preparing documentation, through cooperation with the Polish Chamber of Plant Protection and Inspection (PIORiN), to selecting the right packaging.
Because in logistics, precision in detail counts.
