International frozen food groupage service provides direct Poland-Benelux connection.
Warsaw – headquartered refrigerated transportation specialist Polfrost has introduced an international frozen groupage service for the movement of less than truckload shipments to and from Poland. Management regards this development as a milestone in the expansion of the company from simply an FTL-carrier into a full-fledged logistics operator that works in close cooperation with coldstores.
Initially, the program will primarily target shippers of product going to Poland from Benelux countries, Germany, France and the UK. Clients will be able to send as little as one pallet to receiving terminals, where goods will be consolidated for delivery to final destinations by liner trucks. In the future, it will also be possible to arrange distribution to other nations through Polfrost’s network of logistics links that reach into Russia and beyond.
„We think this new service will especially appeal to frozen food producers who want to increase activities in Central and Eastern Europe,” said Mark Lenssen, commercial manager for operations in Western Europe. „The Polish economy is growing, and the standard of living is rising. Along with this comes a greater need for imports of convenience foods to supply the many modern supermarket chain stores that have been established in the country.”
Noting that frozen groupage provides substantial savings for shippers, Lenssen added: „They don’t necessarily have to start out with large tonnage loads, but can instead opt for quantities of one, two or three pallets at a time.”
Based in Heerlen, Holland, Lenssen aims to develop groupage schedules for clients in the Benelux, France and Southern Europe. The company’s office in Aachen will concentrate on prospects in Germany, while its UK branch in Flintshire will focus on the British market.
